WW2 German M38 Double Decal Paratrooper Helmet
If you are looking for a mint example of the German pre war double decal M38 Fallschirmjager paratrooper helmet then read no further.
If a non mint totally original & untouched 'been there' example in its correct early format with yellow pads & early brown chinstrap interests you then perhaps this may be the piece for you. Originally finished in apple green paint which has now darkened with age the shell retains a high proportion of its factory finish with heavy wear evident. Both decals are still present the second pattern Luftwaffe decal to left side & national shield to right. Both show natural age but are largely intact nevertheless. Closeup images will immerse you into the depth of detail that can still be seen on each. All four of the vented spanner bolts match exactly in paint & patina to the rest of the helmet & have ,clearly, never been out. Underside of shell is marked 'ET66' with lot number '4200' . The aluminium liner band is is totally original to the helmet with all seven of its yellow pads present. The internal yellow rubber spider pad is still present this having hardened with age underneath the liner. It is of note that black pads should only be encountered on later examples of the paratrooper helmet more often than not from the mid to late war period. The leather liner itself has darkened with age although a very faint trace of the typical rectangular stamping is visible when carefully examined. Three of the ventilation holes have torn through. Leather chinstrap is of early goatskin construction & distinctly brown in colour , this is largely intact but of course with age causing some loss to surface finish & a hardly noticeable repair to one section where strap meets the yoke ( See image). Slide fastener minus.
Scarce in any condition this double decal M38 paratrooper helmet is offered completely as found in its correct prewar format.
This helmet was purchased in the USA from an American veteran some years ago & resided in a private collection until it was sold to raise funds.
