WW2 German Matching Numbered Luftwaffe Marked Mauser Rifle 1941
A fabulous 1941 dated matching numbered & Luftwaffe issued K98 Mauser rifle which saw service in Norway & was used by them after the war.
This early German rifle is profusely marked with clear eagle & swastika waffenamt markings & has the three letter code for Mauser 'byf' & date '41' to receiver. The wood butt is also eagle & swastika marked & has an 'L' denoting Luftwaffe. Comes complete with cleaning rod & sight hood. The last three digits of the rifles serial number can be seen to the bottom of the wood butt '091' matching the rest of the rifle. On close inspection it is apparent that all components matching are wooden furniture, safety catch, cocking piece, bolt release latch, H band & lower band , trigger guard assembly , wood butt , floor plate & locking screws , internal magazine tray. Interestingly the rear sight has matching numbered slider however the sight itself is waffenamt marked indicating wartime use but a different number indicating a period repair .At the end of hostilities in Norway the rifle was used by Norwegian forces who added their own serial number to the side of the frame , bolt & butt heel which also has the original German matching number crossed out & replaced with the Norwegian one.
