WW2 German Tan Prestoff Straight Shovel With Two Tone Camouflage
A German straight entrenching tool in rare tan prestoff cover this having been spray camouflaged with green & brown to front & back.
This whole set , surprisingly , recently came from the effects of a former WW2 British serviceman via his daughter along with the usual obligatory collection of prisoner collected German badges . Why he would bring back what in collectors terms today is a very desirable item , is anybodys guess ! Tan prestoff covers are not common but obtainable however to find one with camouflage paint is quite unique . Applied with a pistol gun it appears that much has worn off over time however enough remains to accurately discern that it is brown & green over the tan without any shadow of a doubt. Marked to the interior leather with the date '44' & a three letter code beginning in 'em* ' the eagle & swastika marking to the right of this is clear. The handle of the shovel has an interesting name / unit marking '23SF' burnt into the handle with the date '1943' to shovel head 'H' for Heer ( Army ) & man with outstretched arm manufacturer marking beneath this.
I have left it completely as it came to me , both belt loops are totally intact as is all other stitching.
