WW2 German M42 Army Single Decal Helmet With Normandy Commando Bringback Label
A textbook single decal Army M42 raw edge helmet with capture label to underside of rim reading ' BROUGHT BACK FROM THE SECOND FRONT -NORMANDIE IN 1944 BY MARINE COMMANDO IMPETT' . This may well relate to a French commando ( No.4) as well as British.
Helmet is finished in slate grey with good proportion of army decal remaining. To underside of rim is the name of the soldier in in large handpainted letters which appears to be ' OHOTA ' quite possibly relating to one of the many foreign troops manning defences whilst serving in the Wehrmacht during the Normandy Landings. This has mostly obscured the markings on the shell however appears to be 'ckl' with a size of 64 or 66. The original chinstrap is still present with faint markings to end . The short buckle strap has some minor corrosion to one end.
A helmet that has been left uncleaned & completely & as it was brought back with research potential.
