WW2 German Three Tone Luftwaffe Camouflage M40 Helmet With Impact Damage

An M40 single decal Luftwaffe helmet in three tone camouflage with the classic plum red , tan ochre & forest green having been skilfully applied in swirl type sections.
The second pattern Luftwaffe decal of this helmet is present although partially removed with the outline & a proportion of its body & wings still visible. All three liner pins , although heavily worn , have traces of the forest green camouflage paint on them with the factory applied Luftwaffe blue underneath . Being of earlier aluminium manufacture the paint has not adhered so well on the heads of each pin. Either a bullet or shrapnel ball has impacted with the front of the helmet forming a dent with impact damage also visible tothe side caused by shrapnel or a low calibre round impacting against it. This has caused some splitting of the metal where it has been struck in two places.Underside of the 'ET64' ( Lot 4912) marked shell remains in its factory applied Luftwaffe blue paint. Interior lining shows heavy wear however has straight unmolested pins so is original to the helmet. There is some damage to the fingers of the tongues overall. Finally , chinstrap is maker marked & dated 1942.
